Christmas Randomness

Hello Everyone! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! (or maybe you don't celebrate either) In that case Happy day that isn't yesterday! It's been like what two days? How have you all been?

Today I'm taking part in Faith P. 12 Day's of Christmas Blog Party! If you haven't checked that out yet you should totally check it out.

So I had been thinking about what this post should be about. I thought I could make it about "The importance of our time here" or "Christmas being more then just the presents and traditions" or even how "Christmas is failing at focusing on Christ". But after thinking about it for like a day and a half I just didn't feel like typing all that up right now.

Sure they are important subjects and I would hope you all keep them on the forefront of your mind this season (or at lest think of the implications). But I feel like I haven't been able to just be me with you all for the longest time. So today I'm doing Christmas randomness!

Frist off we have the "All the things I wish I could have done during Christmas time but never had the chance because I live in California" section.

1) I wish I could have built a snow man, and use him as a crash test dummy. Or just do this to him.

2) I wish I could have rode a Reindeer while playing the Colton Dixon version of Jingle Bells.

3) Play Rugby with Santa, after telling him this

4) I wish I could have had an epic-ly over dramatized snow ball fight!

Secondly we have "why I prefer older Christmas songs"
Who would I be if I didn't add something for you to be angry at me for?
Before I get into this part I just want to say that I'm not trying to say all the new stuff is bad or anything. This is just food for though.

So it's more then likely that you've heard songs like "Santa Clause is coming to town, Baby it's cold outside, White Christmas, Last Christmas, All I want for Christmas, Let it snow" at lest one time in your life. And although they are all labeled Christmas song, I think they betray what Christmas is meant to be now (not going to go into on what it was meant to be originally because that is a totally different post). I think the whole season is meant to be a focus on Christ and way He came right?

For it was on that night that hope had come into the world. It was on that day that the promise made way way WAY back in Gen. 3:15 had finally reached it realization. The man born of woman had come into the world to crush the serpents head, though He would cause His own self harm in doing it, but He would restore creation to the way it was before. The wrong done my Adam's sin would be undone, man would finally have a way to be right with God again. It was the promise of the Peace Bringer being fulfilled, the Messiah had come.

That is supposed to be the focus of Christmas right? Now lets take a quick look at the older Christmas songs.
  • Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
  • The First Noel
  • Joy to the World
  • Silent Night
  • We Three Kings of Orient Are
  • O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
  • O Come All Ye Faithful
  • O Holy Night
  • Hallelujah Chorus
There are more then just these, but really look at these. They are all singing praises to the Christ who came to save the world from sin. Some even speak of His death. But they are all singing praises to the Savoir King. Now if you take a quick google of the newer popular stuff you will find that it's more about my wants, a fat guy in red, and traditions. Now I'm not saying they are totally wrong in it of themselves. I mean I just said "I wish I could have rode a Reindeer while playing the Colton Dixon version of Jingle Bells." That isn't totally wrong, that is just me having fun. But it's super easy to let traditions and fun take our focus away from what this holiday is supposed to represent. The celebration of our Savior coming to save people who couldn't help themselves.

It is a celebration of the climax of history. It was the darkest part spiritually and humanly speaking, when all hope seemed to be lost God sent us the Savoir. And that my Christian friend, whether you observe Christmas, Hanukkah or nothing, is worth celebrating.

So be Merry, Sing songs, laugh with family, eat nice food, have epic snow ball fights, watch the fire burn, have traditions, jingle those bells. But don't forget the reason way we can sing, because the promised Son had finally come. The Light of the word was here, and He would save us from sin.

(As a fun side note, I totally suggest going through the old Christmas hymns and seeing which parts of the Bible they are from)

And until Next Time, Stay True to The King!

  1. Merry Christmas, Rockie :) I loved reading this post... it seems like it's been awhile since you've been goofy and fun on here :P But also, really good point about old Christmas songs. I've been thinking about that a little bit too and this confirmed my thoughts. Hope you have a very nice Christmas Marrok!

    1. Merry Christmas Ash! Thanks, it wasn't that great but like I said my brain is kinda fried. I know! I want to be more goofy and funny again. Being super serious every post isn't me.

Really? I'm glad to hear it wasn't just me, what thoughts did it confirm?

  2. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and enjoy your Groundhog's Day! :D Nice post, and I agree with you on the older songs being better. Christmas has become a different holiday from what it used to be, unfortunately. I also find the older ones so musically beautiful. Besides, some of the newer ones are just creepy . . . have you looked up the lyrics to Baby, It's Cold Outside or Santa Baby? It's weird! Anyway, I found your final-fried content quite fun! Keep up the good work!

    2. I know I'll enjoy my time here. You're such a fun, enthusiastic blogger! I'll definitely stick around.

Thanks! Yes, I get tired of the "traditional" Merry-Christmas-Happy-New-Year greeting everyone gives, so I throw in the Groundhog's Day part to give variety. :D Glad you find it funny.
They are. Seriously, some of them should be banned. Oh, and I totally want to see you blow up a snowman now. XD

  3. 'epic-ly over dramatized snow ball fight'- that's a good description of my little brother and me out in the first snow.

Those old songs you list really are powerful. I admit to singing them out of season, because I loved the worship within them.

    Merry Christmas, Marrock!

  4. Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to you as well. :)
Nice list, though sorry you haven't been able to do that. There's no snow here at the moment, so I haven't made any snowmen or had any snowball fights, or done anything fun snowrelated. There are a couple of real life reindeers at a farm a couple miles from us though...riding them could happen. ;)
I hope you and your family have a blessed holiday season!

    1. Thanks Rae! What?! still no snow over there yet?!

Well I guess settling for reindeer riding is a pretty good runner up :D
Thank you! I hope you and your family have a blessed holiday season as well!

    2. I know, it's uber crazy! We did FINALLY get a dusting of snow last night though - just enough to barely cover the ground, but it'll do for now. It makes the below-zero temps more endurable when there's white to see outside!
      :D
      Thanks!
