SOFI SNOW Blog Tour/ Geast Post

Hello everyone. So this was supposed to come out on the 14th... But finals took more of toll then I thought, both on me and my laptop (rest in peace old friend). So I was able to ask Mary Weber about her latest novel SOFI SNOW and her is the Interview.

So I know this is a really generic question, but why did you start writing?

Every time I answer this question, I wish I had something more original to say! But the truth is – about nine years ago I went through a season where I sort of just internally sat down and stared out the window for a few months - at the autumn leaves, the sky, the roads leading home. I knew who I am as a mom, wife, youth counselor, and friend, but I couldn’t seem to find the rest of me. During that time I began to write as a way to discover more of the woman in me and to explore her view of life and enjoy the beauty she sees in the stories of others. And then . . . I just never stopped.

That is so cool! I love the way writing can bring stuff out that you never knew were there. So, what inspired SOFI SNOW?

-The teens I work with
-The recent political season
-My absolute love of Sci-Fi's such as Super 8, Ender's Game, and Minority Report
-The strong women in my life

Very interesting, sure sounds like an awesome mix. Do you have an absolute favorite and hated genre to write in?

*laughs* This question is amazing. Um…my favorite is probably fantasy simply because (1) it’s my favorite genre to read and (2) fantasy allows for a ton of creative freedom.

My hated genre to write in? It’s not so much a genre but rather anything that feels confining. I write to explore the world around us and the hearts within – and I’ve found I don’t enjoy writing when I feel the pressure of expectations regarding what’s acceptable or unacceptable to talk about. Part of the beauty of a book is the ability to discuss things in an authentic way. A way that says, “I see your soul and here’s mine in the midst of life’s messy story. Let’s be friends.”

That is great! Like I always think "pushing creative is what makes worlds". Well in that case are there other genre's out there you would like to try writing in?

Am I allowed to say "non-fiction"? Yes? Maybe? At any given time I'm reading at least one soul-filling-real-talk type book right along with a novel. I'd love to write one of those someday

Hey that is a very interesting jump! I hope it works out if you do! Okay last question. How do you create Characters? Like where does the inspiration for them come from?

The world and people around us! I don’t care how creative or wild a story’s character is – human beings are far more strange, soulful, and quirky. ALWAYS.

How Cool! Well thank you Mrs. Weber for stopping by and taking the time to answer some questions. For more info on her book just look down :P

As an online gamer, Sofi battles behind the scenes of Earth's Fantasy Fighting arena where Shilo is forced to compete in a mix of real and virtual blood sport. Mary Weber is the multiple-award-winning author of the bestselling young adult Storm Siren Trilogy, and The Evaporation of Sofi Snow series (all by HarperCollins). An avid high school, middle school, and conference speaker, Mary's passion is helping others find their voice amid a world that often feels too loud. When she's not plotting adventures involving tough girls who frequently take over the world, Mary sings 80's hairband songs to her three muggle children, and ogles her husband who looks strikingly like Wolverine. They live in California which is perfect for stalking L.A. bands, Comic-Con, and the ocean.

Mary's debut, Storm Siren, was featured in the Scholastic School Book Fairs, and her novels have been endorsed by bestselling authors Marissa Meyer, Jay Asher, Wendy Higgins, CJ Redwine, and Jonathan Maberry.

You can also find Mary's fun interviews in the paperback of Marissa Meyer's NYT bestselling, CRESS, and in Jay Asher's 13 REASONS WHY movie tie-in edition. Most recently, you can see her and her family as extras in the NETFLIX Original Series, 13 REASONS WHY.
