Land of...

Hello everyone, I hope your all doing well this week and that you have a great weekend! Today I wanted to talk about something we all know about, but I feel like we don't really get it. And that is Idolatry.

So we all know that idol worship is a sin. Like me you may have though it was praying to, well idols. Just in case someone out there doesn't know what idolatry/idol worship is, it is the act of worshiping (or giving time to) something in the place of worshiping the True God.

But before I get further into the topic would you mind watching this short video?

Put's things in a totally different light, Huh?

Wait are you just slamming the super bowl?

Oh no, I'm not trying to do that at all. Plus I'm no where near strong enough to slam the Super bowl, I'm not Superman after all.

The Bible says that we are too meditate on it day and nigh (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:1-3, 19:14, 104:34, Philippians 4:8). And I'm not talking about this kind of meditation

where you have to empty your mind. No the meditation I'm taking about (and the kind the Bible is talking about) is a constant thinking (or bringing back to memory) on what the Bible says. Now it's about to get personal (for me anyways so don't feel like you have to answer the question).

Have you been meditating on God's Word? or have you been in idolatry?

I know I use to indulge in idol worship. I use to worship superheroes (big surprise right?). Sure I read my Bible back then and prayed, and basically did all the things a good Christian does. But I was in idolatry. I put so much time, and dictated so much of my thoughts, to things that are not even real. I got up thinking about them, spent time reading/researching about them, heck it didn't even stop when I went to sleep. I didn't even notice my own idolatry until my mom and dad put a restriction on me. And let me tell you the restriction was hard. But thanks to that hard restriction I did realize what I was doing and was able to correct it.

My question to you is how much time are we spending meditating on God. If you have to make a list to see how much though is spent on Thinking about Gods Word then do so. I've seen people whose New Year's goal is to read 2,500 book but only think about the Bible while the memorize 20 verses. Now I'm not saying having a reading goal is bad or anything. What I'm saying is that we should all take into account the time we spend in other things and how much we spend on God. After all we are going to live in eternity a lot longer then any time we have here.

Yes I know life is hard. We all have deadlines to meet, things to do, and people to talk with. Life is busy and we don't always have the "free time" we want. But I think that is why God said we need to meditate on Him and His Word. It's super easy to think right? like right now your probably thinking why you even bothered wasting your time reading this post. But when we mentally take into the account all the things we do think about, it's easy to see how much time we actually have to think about God's Word.

The goal of this post (and my hope) is for you to be able to take a look at your though life. Are you really thinking about what God wants? or are you like I was, a self-deceived idol worshiper? and before I go I want to leave you with these words.

Until Next Time, Stay True to the King!

  1. I'm always needing reminders, and this was definitely a good one. I've been thinking a lot on how I need to spend more time in the Word, but I haven't done it as much as I'd like. So I'm working on it.
    Great post!

    1. Thanks Soleil! It is also something I have to constantly remind myself, so your not alone there.

  2. Wow this was very eye-opening. Thanks for writing this post, Marrok. We do live in a culture of idolatry and it's easy to get pulled in without even realizing it. Great post!

  3. This was a great reminder, Marrok! I've actually considered this a lot with my writing, since I do a ton of it. I make sure I keep God as the center, because He is the reason that I write. In all the busyness, sometimes it's hard to remember, but He's the only One worth living for.

    Thank you for this!

    1. Thanks, I'm glad it could serve as a reminder. Since it's so easy to just forget about it as go through life. That's great! I have to say you can't really go wrong with God centered writing. Glad you enjoyed the post!

  4. Good post, M. :) The video isn't loading on my computer right now (the computer has issues like this a lot) but I'll try again later.
It's scary how quick something can become an idol. I'm glad we do have a Savior who keeps us in check! It'd be even scarier (is that a word?!) if we didn't. I like how you said your parent's putting restrictions was actually for your benefit. Much agreed - parents are great, like that. A good mirror of what God does for us. :)

    1. Thanks Rae! Sorry the video isn't loading. It's basically a short presentation where the man is reading a list of things idolatry looks like and showing corresponding pictures of the Super Bowl.

It is once you take into consideration all the things Americans worship without even noticing.

As for the restriction I see it as good now, at the time I though it was the most 'unfair' thing ever. Funny how that works right? Sometimes those things we think are unfair are the things we need the most of. Yeah parents are a great representation of God :D Thanks for stopping by

    2. Ah okay. Sounds interesting! I'll see if it'll load this morning. :)

Oh I know - The Bible wasn't kidding when it said "No correction is pleasant at the moment, but worketh for our reward in the long run" (okay, that was really paraphrased, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. ^.^). Yep, tough lesson sometimes. It's nice when we can be able to look back and see the reward of it, though. :)

    3. Yeah I totally get that. It never feels good at that point but you come our stronger in the end. Like the refiners fire.
